Cochin or Kochi, known as Queen of the Arabian Sea, is located on the west coast of India in the gods own paradise Kerala. It is entitled as the commercial and industrial capital of the state. Now a day, it emerges as major tourist destination in Kerala, also considered as Gateway to Kerala. Historically Speaking- Major tourist attraction- Chinese fishing net- it was introduced by the traders from the Court of Kublai khan. According to the records, the Chinese fishing Nets was first used between AD 1350 and 1450. The perfect place to explore the nets is Vasco da Gama square. Bolgatty Island- in Bolgatty Island, you can explore Bolgatty palace, built by the Dutch in 1774. The palace is located amidst 15 acres of lush green lawns, became the seat of the British resident later. Francis Church- It is said to be the oldest existing European shrine in India, built by Portuguese Franciscan Friars in 1503. It was the place where Vasco de Gama was buried after his death. Apart from these attractions the place is famous for Churches, beaches and temples such as Cherai beach, Dutch Cemetery, Dutch palace Mattancherry, Fort Cochin beach, indo-Portuguese Museum, Santacruz Basilica church and many more. |
